Research Year 2023: Guests at the ZERO foundation Düsseldorf
In the research year 2023, the GUI will be a guest at the ZERO foundation in Düsseldorf. We look forward to researching together on this year’s theme, “The State of Experience,” focusing on action and performance art. The art historical connection between ZERO and Günther Uecker is well known: In 1958, Uecker was able to show his works for the first time, alongside Heinz Mack and Otto Piene, in the so-called evening exhibition Das rote Bild. Between 1961 and 1966, Uecker was a member of the group, one of the most significant neo-avant-garde movements in post-war Germany. Now, almost 70 years later, we are re-examining the beginnings of this artistic engagement with process-based art and discussing its impact and relevance to this day with international scholars—at the ZERO foundation’s historic location. The highlight of our cooperation will be a workshop taking place on-site in Düsseldorf in November of this year. Details of the program will be announced soon.
