Volume 1 of the Notizen zu Uecker series has been published
On November 21st, 2022, the first volume of the GUI’s series of scholarly texts was published by Deutscher Kunstverlag. Under the title “Man’s Inhumanity: Günther Uecker’s Conceptual History Paintings,” art historian and Middle Eastern historian Katrin Nahidi analyzes Uecker’s work Implement (On Words), which was created as part of the work complex Man’s Inhumanity (1992/93). Central to Nahidi’s investigation is the formation of a connection between conceptual art and history painting, proposing a “conceptual history painting.” Along the way, Nahidi illuminates the exhibition history of this work and, closely linked with this, how the work has made an impact in the context of cultural politics and intercultural effects.
